THE DISCOVEET OF THE BACILLUS. TSPKCIAL TO PBESB ASSOCIATION.] LONDON, Jan. 8. Influenza is severe in Liverpool and Essex. Six thousand cases are reported at Guernsey, and 25,000 in i Venice. The Grenadier and Cold- j stream Guards, and . the London Postmen are suffering from the Sir R. C. S. Clifford, Usher oE the Black Eod, has died from influenza. BEEHN, Jan. 8. Professor Pffeifer has injected the bacillus o£ the disease into monkeys and rabbits, thus causing influenza. Dr Koch confirms the discovery of the influenza bacillus. The bacilli are extremely small but amazingly prolific. Dr Pffeifer recommends disinfecting the sputum of patients. r Jan. 9. The influenza bacillus is oval ar.d immobile, and is the smallest discovered. NEW YOEK, Jan. 8. Three hundred deaths per week from influenza are reported in Philadelphia. LONDON, Jan. 9. Lords Knutsford and Carrington are suffering from influenza. STOCKHOLM, Jan. 9. The King of Sweden, who has been suffering from a severe attack of influenza, is recovering.
