Eefusing to Quit Pbemises— William Horcombe was charged with refuging to leave the licensed premises of the Shades Hotel when requested to do so by the landlord. After hearing the evidence, the Bench dismissed the case. Threatening Language. — George Cresswell wa. charged with using threatening language to Charlotte Cresswell, hia wife. The offence was admitted, and defendant was ordered to find sureties to keep the peace towards her, in default three months' imprisonment. Eobbeby.— - Eose Adams was charged with stealing about £10 from the person of George Deane, at Christchurch on Saturday, Jan. 9. Mr T. S. Weston appeared for accused. George Deane deposed that he was a farmer living at Bhodes Bay, and came to town on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 9. He had £13 with him then, including a cheque for £7, and five £1 notes. He went to tbe Palace Hotel aboat 3 p.m., having about £10 10s at that time. He had had about five or six Bmall beers. About four o'clock he went with tbe accused to a house in Salisbury Grove. They had hardly shut the door, when ehe caught him by the throat, threw him down, half-choked him, and took away his money. When he got away, he went acroas the road and complained to a man named Bennetts. A ' little later he met two boys, and sent | tbem for a constable. When Constable Simeon came they went to the house, but . there was no one there. He afterwards • went back to the house with Detective ! Benjamin, and waited outside while the accused was arrested. Edward Ben- : netts gave corroborative evidence. De- ; tective Benjamin deposed tbat he arretted accused. She said she never saw the money. She was pretty violent, as j Bhe was under the influence of drink. Before being searched at the lookup, by the female searcher, she handed over the purse (produced). It ' contained a £1 note, half a sovereign, and : 19s 8d in silver and copper. She saw prosecutor, and said, "Tou say I took your money. Supposing I did how mnch did I j take." Deane replied, "About £11 and Borne silver." She Baid, " Eleven pounds. Oh what a lie." Inspector Pender applied for a remand. Mr Weston said that there was no case on whioh to remand his client. The Bench remanded the accused till Thursday, and allowed bail in two sureties of £10 eaoh. i (Before E. Beetham, Esq., E.M.)
