Sumner Borough Council.
♦ The fortnightly meeting of this Council was held on Tuesday evening ; present — The Mayor, and Councillors Carpenter, Gilchriat, Hay ward, Monck and Tait. Councillor Pratt sent an apology for abaence. The Mayor and Councillors forming the Water Supply Committee reported that they did not consider it advisable to utilise the Watsonville water at present, deeming it better to await the result of the boring about to be undertaken on the Fishermen's Flat. It was resolved to call tenders for supplying about ten chains of kerbing stones for footpaths. Councillor Carpenter proposed that steps should be taken to commemorate the forming of Sumner into a Borough. The motion waa seconded by Councillor Tftit and carried. The Mayor and Councillors Hayward, Carpenter and Tait were appointed a Sub-Committee to consider what form the commemoration should take. It was resolved—" That owners of property on the old benched road leading to the Zigzag be requeoted to have steps placed on the road where it is crossed by a wire fence, to allow foot passengers to pass that way." Mr Job Osborne's tender waa accepted for sinking a well at the Fishermen's Flat. The question of further work on the Lyttelton road was referred to the Works Committee. The tenders of Charles O'Malley for forming Grafton Btreet, John Culling, quarrying and breaking stone, and A. Fletcher for breaking only, at the Middle Kock, were accepted; Accounts amounting to JJ42 53 were passed for payment.
