LONDON. August 1. Her Majesty the Queen has sent, through M. Waddington, the French Ambassador, a message of sympathy with the sufferers in the St Maude railway accident near Paris. SUDDEN DEATH. Mr Francis Fortescue Williams, aged seventy-seven, who waa well known in Christchurch, where he has followed the trade of a hairdresser as an employee of Mr Ayers and on his own account for a number of years, died suddenly at his residence, 141, Montreal street, yesterday afternoon. He was in the company of his wife and daughter and Mrs Ayers when his death occurred. Dr Symes was sent for and pronounced death to have occurred through failure of the action of the heart, but not having seen him previously could not give a oertificftte. An inquest will, therefore, be held, THE CAB ACCIDENT. Ellen Weston, the victim of the cab accident in Manchester street, on Thursday evening, died at the Hospital on Saturday afternoon at three o'clock. Yesterday morning an inquest was held before Mr R. Beetham and a jury of whom Mr J. W. Mills was chosen foreman The evidence of Charleß Lawrence, the driver of the cab, Hugh Millar, a young man who was in company of deceased, and Frank Evans, the occupant of the cab, went to show how the accident had been caused. Dr de Renzi stated the nature of the injuries sustained. A verdict of "Accidental death" was returned.
