POLITICAL.

[from our special correspondent.] WELLINGTON, AUGUST 3. A big deputation will wait on the Government to-day. It will be headed by Mr Rees, and is to ask that the Yaile system shall be given a trial in Auckland. Mr Rees has been very actively engaged working up the interest. The Premier is not better this morning, but still hopes he will be in the House to-night. A deputation, on behalf of the Dunedin Technical School, consisting of the three Dunedin members, Mr Burt (President), and Mr Mark Cohen (Treasurer), waited on the Minister for Education asking aid for the Institution. The Minister sympathised with the object, and promised to consult the Colonial Treasurer on the subject. He expressed himself personally favourable to a grant of a few hundred pounds, as a £ for <£ subsidy, to supplement any amount raised locally ; and the deputation was satisfied. It was mentioned that one object of the school is to train students for the admirable School of Engineering at Christchurch College. The local shopkeepers are pebitioning against the Shop Hours Bill, and asking to be heard by representatives before a Select; Committee of the Upper House. I hear it rumoured that they are getting the signatures of women and children. The friends of the Early Clewing Movement Bill generally are of opinion that counter petitions from other centres ought to be sent to counteract this attempt at pressure on the Legislature.
