HOSPITAL BOARD.

THIS DAT.

The monthly meeting of the Hospital' Board was held at 10.30 a.m. to-day ; present — Messrs W. D. Wood (Chairman), D. M'Millan, W. Dunlop, W. Prudhoe, T. York, W. Langdown, R. Westenra, H. Blackett and the Mayor of Christchurch. An apology was received from Mr Moor. Mr Westenra brought up a question of. privilege. He referred to some paragraphs that have recently appeared in the Lyttelton Times and Star, and in the course o£ some lengthy remarks, he implied that some member of the Committee had been guilty of giving information to those papers. • CONSULTING STAFF. Mr Prndhoe moved—" That Dr Prins be appointed Hon Consulting Surgeon and Dr Townend Hon Consulting Physician to theHospital. This was seconded by Mr Gray, and carried unanimously. Mr Weatenra moved, in pursuance of notice— "That the meetings of the Board be held in future on the fourth Wednesday in the month, at 2 p.m., instead of as a& present." Mr Dunlop seconded the motion, which, was carried, the next meeting of the Board to be held on July 22. KOTICBB OF HOTION. Mr Gray gave notice that he would move at next meeting— "That By-law 118 be rescinded. Also that the hours affecting 1 the night nursea prior to the passing of By-law 118 be reverted to." FINANCIAL. The Finance Committee reported re* ceipta for the month were : — Oxford Road Board balance £27 19s sd, Amberley Town district £7 15s 9d, Cust Road Board £23 Bs, patients fees £51 13b. The expenditure has been £559 6s 2d, as per details attached. During the month 78 patients were admitted, 67 discharged, 7 died* leaving 75 remaining in the Hospital. NUBBBS' DBBSSKP* The Chairman said that the matrott requested a vote of £50 to provide the nurses with a uniform. It was intended that they should wear blue serge dresses, white cuffs, collars and aprons, and, as the rule compelled them to wear the uniform, the matron asked for £50 towards the cost. The nurses wonld make their own dresses and provide their collars, cuffs and aprons, but they objected to provide the material for their dresses, therefore he thought it only fair that the Board should provide it. On the motion of Mr Gray, seconded by Mr Prudhoe, the request was complied with.

QUESTION,

Mr Gray desired to be informed who wa» in charge of the Hospital when the houße surgeon and matron were both away, and was it contemplated that both these officers should be absent from the Hospital at the same time.

The Chairman replied that Mr Brown was in charge when the house surgeon, was absent, but he did not think the matron was often away at the Bame time*

Mr Westenra said that when the house surgeon went out he left word where he went to, so that he could be telephoned for if required. The position was this— lf the house surgeon was not at hand Mr Brown could always telephone for a member of the Hospital staff who attended.

Mr Gray did not think it desirable that both the house surgeon and matron should be away at the same time.

MrWeßtenra remarked that the heact nurses were in charge of their warde, and would report anything that happened to the matron when she returned.

The Board then adjourned,
