SYDENHAM RIFLES.

The annual distribution of prizes to the members of the Sydenham Eifle Volunteers took place last night at the orderlyroom, which was nicely decorated for the occasion. There was a good muster of the men, and the chair was occupied by Captain E. E. Anderson, who was supported by Major Joyce. An excellent spread, laid by Mr W. Edwards, having been done justice to, the presentation of prizes took place. Attendance prizes — Corporal Gunnion, Privates P. J. Osborne, C. Newton, J. Currie and H. Shelton. Eecruits' Competition —Privates P. Harrison, A. Shelton and C. Newton. Hon Surgeon Anderson's Competition — Privates F. Bourddt, P. J. Osborne and A. Bourd6t. Annual Competition (prizes given by Major Joyce, Captain Anderson (2), Eev H. B. Cocks, Messrs G. T. Booth, Aitken and Eoberts and another) — Private P. J. Oaborne, 1; Sergeant Hunt, 2; Privates Skelton, 3 5 E. Oaborne, 4; andH. Fright, 5; Corporal Grey 6; Privates Lisle, 7; A. Bourddt, 8; Harrison, 9; and F. Bourddt, 10. Major Joyce, in making the presentations, congratulated the corps on its continued efficiency, and in proposing the health of the captain eulogised his constant and unremitting attention to the interests of the corpa. Apologies were read from Captain Linn and the chaplain, the Bey H. B. Cocks. Several toasts were honoured, and a number of songs were sung during the course of the evening. Private F. S. Parker, the last recruit to the company, in the course of some remarks ou shooting, said that he purposed giving gold and silver medals for a shooting competition to encourage more practice in shooting, and he also intimated his intention of competing for the champion belt. These announcements were received with enthu- 1 eiasm, and the company broke up after singing " Auld Lang Syne."
