SPORTING.

ASHBUBTON HUNT CLUB. A meeting of the Ashburton County Hunt Club was held on Wednesday evening. There was a fair attendance of members, and Dr Leahy occupied the chair. It was decided to hold the annual Steeplechase Meeting on Friday, Aug. 21, laßt year's programme being: adopted. Messrs M'Lean, Kilmore and Wroughton's names were added to the list of stewards. Mr Cresswell was appointed handicupper. As there was some doubt about getting the Ashburton course this season owing to improvements now being effected, the selection o£ a course for the steeplechases was left in the hands of the Secretary and Treasurer. The Point to Point Steeplechase was fixed for Aug. 24, to be run under the same conditions as last year's, the race to be for a trophy value JEIO. The annual ball is to be held on August 25, at which the Club hopes to see all the farmers and their families over whose country it has hunted. The following Committee was appointed to carry oat the necessary arrangements : — Messrs Saunders, Simpson, Weaton, Eusaell, Buckley, Wroughton, Kelly and Fooke. The racehorse Sword Belt was shipped by the steamer Eotomahana yesterday, for Wellington, to the order of Mr Hill.
