Canterbury Fruit-Growers' Association.
♦ A meeting of this Association, held at its offices, Hereford street, yesterday evening, waa well attended. The chair was occupied by Mr P. Wilding, President of the Association. A donation of £5 from Mr C. G. Tripp, for the purchase of books on fruit-growing, war* ordered to bii acknowledged with thanks. A discussion arose on the desirableness of doing 1 something to prevent the introduction of the codlin moth into Canterbury. Mr Robert Chudley, who had recently returned from tho North Island, gave an account of the ravages of the moth in tho northern provinces of New Zealand. On the motion of Mr Sioson a Sub-Committee, consisting oC Messrs Wilding, M. Murphy and tha mover, waa formed to' dcaw up a petition to Government, urging it to take immediate action to prevont tbo introduction and spread of the moth into uninfected districts. It was further decided to i-a struct tho Committee to ask the Colonial Secretary to obtain papers from Melbourne and Tasmania on the subject of the apple trade with Eagland.
