The Imperial Government has assured the Newfoundland Government that it will establish Courts to administer treaties, and will abstain from piecemeal legislation. Mr William Lidderdale, Governor of the Bank of England, has. been appointed a member of the Privy Council. Sir George Stephen, formerly Chairman of the CanadianPacific Railway, haa been created the first. Colonial Pew. Mr Robert Giffen, LL.D., a well-known financial writer and ono o£ the Assistant .Secretaries of the Board of Trade, has been created a Commander of the Bath. Mr Justin M'Carthy has decided not to agitate for tho roleaso of Messrs Dillon and O'Brien. Sir George William Des Vosus, Governor of Hongkong, has resigned owing to ill-health. Sir F. Napier Broome, formerly Governor of Western Australia, will probably succeed him. JCKK 1. The House of Commons reports the Irish Land Purchase Bill with thirteen pages of amendments.
