Wheat and Rye.
The reports which arrived by the mai include the latest statement by thi Washington Department of Agriculture oi the condition of the crops in the Unitei States on April 1. The average conditio) of winter wheat was 969, against 81 las year, 94 in 1889, and 82 in 1888, thi condition being the highest since April 1882. The average condition for rye oi April 1 was 95*4, against 928 last year 93-9 in 1889, and 93*5 in 1888. The seasoi for sowing was favourable over the arei planted, and the crop was in good growtl by the advent of winter. Subsequen weather conditions have been favourable The Hessian fly was feared in December and is yet in abeyance. Serious injury might follow should the early seasoi favour its development. The Statisticiai remarks that a high April condition doei not insure a large yield, but indicate! strength and vitality, enabling the planl to withstand unusual vicissitudes. At interesting comparative table, showing the annual exports of wheat, including flour, from Susaia and the United States since 1851, and from India since 1855, iE given in a report issued by the American Statistician.
