Accidents and Fatalities.
Alfred Jones, of Woodside, wa3 picked up by Mr Foster at daylight on Tuesday morning, in an unconscious state, on the Main Bußh road at Oxford. It is supposed he fell from his horse when returning from 1 tho dance ai West Oxford. Dr Weld, who • is attending the aufferer, considers the case very critical. A most peculiar accident happened at Warrnambool (Victoria) on May 11. The i s.s. Helen Nicholl was alongside the jetty, pitching and surging on the sea that was rolling in, .when suddenly the spring parted, and one of the links of the cable broke with such force aa to hurl it through the window of a hotel 300 yards distant, and also through a partition ; nobody happened to be along the track at the time. It is well known that to the carelesß there is considerable danger lurking in every hot spring in the Hot Lakes district. A false step may at any moment lead to a terrible death. A correspondent forwards to us (Auckland Star) the news that a Maori girl on Thursday last fell into the cooking spring at Whakarewarewa, and narrowly <jscaped a horrible death. She caught hold of some kits of potatoes that were cooked in the Bpring, and with great presence of mind got out. Though she saved her life, she was severely scalded.
