These reserves comprise an area of 1600 aores, and are leased to Mr Fierce and Mr D. Brick. The principal object of the visit was to view the site on which it is proposed to plant a belt of treeß, and Mr Sealy, nurseryman, of Ashburton, who accompanied the party, will report to the Council on the varieties of trees most likely to thrive on the land, and will furnish other details. The party was hospitably entertained by Mr Brick, and enjoyed a very pleasant outing. Piee at Beomlht. — An unoccupied four-roomed cottage, situated near the Bromley Rifle Eange, about three mile3 from Woolston, was found to have been burnt down on Tuesday evening. It had been unoccupied for about six weeks, and Mrs Crysell, who lives in the nearest house to it, says she saw flames at about 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday, but as broom and gorae fires are prevalent in that neighbourhood she took but little notice of it. The cottage was owned by Mr John Sandford, of Heathcote Valley, who states that it was insured in the New Zealand office for .£IOO, but that this does not cover the loss.
