Picnic. — Early on Monday morning quite a stir was noticeable in the North road, Papanui, when eotne twenty-four young and old attired in holiday dress collected opposite the apple-packing factory of the New Zealand Fruit Export Company started in a three-horße break, which took them to Christchurch Railway Station, and called en route for others. Arrived there, a specially reserved fir6t-claHB carriage conveyed them to Lyttelton. There, a further change awaited the party, who embarked onAgarand Roberts' launch for Governor's Bay. All enjoyed the trip, the sea being smooth, and the sun pleasantly warm. Landing at the lower jetty, the party made their way around the cliffs, and over the beach to the upper jetty, en route to the Ocean View Hotel. After a pleaßant time epent in the adjoining grounds, Mr Constable making everyone comfortable, they adjourned to the large dining-room, where they did justice to an excellent luncheon. The party then strolled over the hillß fernhunting; many had a paddle in the sea; and, on returning to the hotel, one of tHe party, Miss Pope, favoured the company with excellent music on the piano. At four, another visit to the dining-room,where an excellent spread was waiting for tea. After tea, Mr Hodgson, on behalf of all, expressed, in a few well-chosen wordo, their full appreciation of the great kindness shewn to them that day by Mr Peckover, who, in reply, expressed the great pleasure it afforded him to 6ee them all so happy, as they evidently had been. They again embarked on the launch, and arrived at Christcburch, whence the break took most of them home to Papanui.
