Land Board.

A meeting of the Canterbury Land Board was held on Thursday, at 11 a.m. ; Preaent — Messrs J H Baker (Chief Commissioner), D M'Millan and W Kitson. The following sections, situated on the Farcora, Bluecliffs and Otaio runs, and comprising part of the Hunter Hills, near Waimate, were disposed of : — For cash : P A Ehvorthy, 2000 acres at 22a 6d per acre ; F V Baber, 1843 acres at 22a 6d j R H Rhodes, 1072 acres at 203 ; J Rhodes, 1990 acres at 22s Ud ; TJ Teschemaker, 1735 acres at 25a ; E El worthy, several sections, remnants of river flats, total area 640 acres at various prices ; R Kelland, 110 acres at 253 ; J M'Alwee, 85 acres at 20s. On porpetiml lease : H G Smith, 1796 acres at Is ljd; R Horriot, 1912 acres at Is 3d; J Elder, 1790 acres at Is 3d 5 T H Mann, 1650 acres at Is4>}d; J D Engelbrecht, 1290 acres at Is; C Jackson, 73 acres at Is ; A Jackson, 22] acres and 102 acres at Is. The following sections were also granted . — For cash : John Farrell, Geraldine suburban, Sa Or 22p at JBS per acre ; on deferred payments : M E Aakew, Waddington, 3a lr 12p, at .£l2 los, on perpetual lease ; Ellen Crowe, near Ashburton, 1 acre at 25s per annum rent. After transacting a quantity of routine business, the Board adjourned.

De Foe died in London on April 24, 1731. In 1877 Her Majesty the Queen granted pensions to three old ladies of the name of De Foe, who were lineally deaoended from him.
