CORRESPONDENCE.
* The following letter appeared in this morning's Lyttelton Times:— PKOPOSEEI APPOINTMENTS TO THE LEGISLATIVE COUJNCIL. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I notice by a local in your issue of to-day that the petition to the Governor protesting against the proposed appointments to the Legislative Council is being numerously signed. As far as I can gather the petition has received good support in the couutry districts, but in the city the number of signatures is comparatively small. Knowing, as I do, that nine-tenths of the people of Christchurch are opposed to the appointments, I hope they will come forward and sign the petition. The petition must be sent to Wellington at the end of this week, and during the next two or three days the number of signatures should be largely augmented. I hope those who agree with the petition will take an opportunity of signing without further delay. Petitions lie for signature at the Lytteltcn Times office, the Trades Hall, and at Mr Bowman's, Victoria street. — I am, &c, Jan. 13. W. B. PERCEVAL.
