The Missing Steamer,

[Per Pbebs Association.]

INVERCABGILL, Jan. 14,

The long absence of the steamer Kakanui on her trip to the Macquarries is causing uneasiness, but no positive ala^m. The trip is estimated to take ten days, and the vessel has been away twenty-one. Mr Hatch's Gratitude has been ready for sea for some days, and will positively be despatched to-morrow if the Kakanui is not here bofore. It is thought possible that the Kakanui may be in the refuge port of Ross, Auckland Islands, short of coal. The fuel Bhe had was 75 tons, from the Southland Nightcaps mine.
