The San Francisco Mail.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— ln the mail notices it is announced that the 'Frisco mail, per b.b. Takapuna, closes here at ten o'clock on Friday morning, but late fee letters can be posted up to 8 p.m., and by the guard's van on the 9.5 p.m. train. Can you explain why such an absurd arrangement as this should be made? It means that for nearly twelve hours before the mail actually closes newspapers cannot be posted. Thiß will prevent very many people from Bending to their friends at Home copies of the weekly newspapers, one of the aims of the proprietors of which is to furnish the public with seasonable issues. Why cannot the Post Office close the mail at the usual time for newspapers, 7.45 p.m. ?— I am, &c, POSTAGE.
