Auckland Training Notes.
[fKOSI OPB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 22. There was a fair attendance of visitors at Bllerslie yesterday morning, but thoae who arrived shortly after four o'clock, myselt amongst the number, missed seeing Dudu gallop, for her owner and trainer still follows the old axiom, " Early to bed, early to rise." I learned that the daughter of Somnus put in two circuits on the course proper, performing mcst satisfactorily. Of Mr Butler's pair, Crackshot went once round at half pace by himself on the plough, when Bay King picked him up at the seven-furlong post, and they rattled home at a good bat, the Cup horse having a deal the best of his companion. Patchwork and Quadrant put in a good working gallop once round on the course proper, both moving very nicely. Reprisal and The Dreamer were associated in a gallop twice round the course ; the former appeared to have the best of it. St Andrew and Medallion put in two circuits together on the plough, the former pleasing most. The son of Sc Leger, who appears to improve every morning, is in great buckle, and if no doubt existed as to his ability to stay the two miles his Cup chance would bear a very rosy aspect. Strephon had the two-year-old Eosefeldt for a companion twice round on the plough, the last six furlong 3 being run almost at top. The two-year-old was then pulled off and the Cup horse put in another circuit alone at half-pace. Antelope had the two-year-old Lebel for a companion for once round on the plough, the pace being put on during the latter part of the journey. Lebel moved rather proppy at first, but when warmed up extended himself in good style. Betting : Hilda is favourite at 5 to 2, Crackshot 7 to 2, Medallion 4 to 1, Strephon 5 to 1, Dudu and St Andrew 7 to 1, Leorina and Patchwork 10 to 1. At Tattersall's to-night 100 to 50 was offered about Hilda for the Cup, without takers. [Pbb Feess Association. J AUCKLAND, Dec. 23. At Ellerslie thiß morning Dudu worked alone on the plough, covering two miles in excellent Btyle. Crackshot put in two circuits on the course proper, having Bay King for a companion. Strephon negotiated two miles on the plough. No horse has done better work, and he is very fit. St Andrew and Medallion ran two miles on the course proper in good style. At Tattersall's last night George Wright accepted 50 to 6 Cissy for the Cup, and 150 t0.7-£ Cissy coupled with Orlando for the Steeplechase. TIMARU, Dec. 22. At a Committee meeting to-night of the South Canterbury Jockey Club, the Autumn Meeting was fixed for April 1G and 17. The tender of Mr Frank Simmons was accepted for the lease of the course. Mr Harry Gardner was elected Starter to the Club, vice Mr John Meikle, resigned.
