He submitted that Section 51 of the Education Act allowed the Board to grant such permisßion, and pointed out that the Board's regulations tended to prevent scholarships being held by the sons of Wesleyan ministers, who were continually removing from place to place. The Key W. J. Habens had informed him that there was no barrier to the sons of Wesleyan ministers gaining scholarships in one district and holding them after removing to another. After some discussion it was decided to take the advice of the Board's solicitors on Section 51 of the Act and Clause 9 of the Board's regulations. The question of the appointment of two lady teachcra at the Hampstead school was referred to the Board by the School Committee, and it was decided to appoint Misses Shirtclifle and Fawcett. He found there were forty-five children, of whom twenty-seven, were of school age. The nearest school was at Medbury, seven miles distant, and the second nearest at Mason's Flat, ten miles off. He hoped that the Board would favourably consider the application for a school at Hurunui at their next meeting. The Board then adjourned.
