THE SISTERS, COUSINS AND AUNTS.
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 18. The alleged case of dummyism, in connection with the Makauri and Puketoi blocks, near Pahiatua, was again before the Land Board to-day. The Minister of Lands wrote, stating that Mr Coleman Phillips was under a misconception as to the date of the interview he had on the subject of taking up land, and also as to what took place thereat. The solicitor for the lady selectors again appeared before the Board and admitted that hia clients had broken the conditions of the lease. The ladies attended the meeting and stated that they never read the declaration before signing it. The first instalment of rent has not been paid, and the improvements required for the first year have not been effected. Other selectors gave evidence to the same effect, stating that, if the Board allowed it, they would take up the leases and comply with the requirements of the Act. The solicitor, addressing the Board, said the leases could be cancelled for breach of conditions, but he did not think the Board need go any further in the matter. The Board adjourned till 2.15 p.m.
