The usual fortnightly meeting was held on Monday evening ; present — His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Williamson, Brooko, Scaly, Bird, Flower, Cuthbertson, j Friedlander and Paul. I The Mayor said tbe debit balance at the j bank was £1528 lGs 4d, and that the revenue received since last meeting was ! ,£33 7a. | The Engineer's report was adopted, and i the tender of Mr P. Makeig, to do the J valuation work for the year at .£l3 13s, and j Mr J. Haßoltine'a tender for dog collars, j were accepted. The grass on Baring square was sold for 7s Gd, and Reserves 1232 and 1233 were let to Mr H. M. Jones at J23 per annum. Accounts amounting to *E9O were passed for payment. At the close of the ordinary meeting, Councillor Williamson said that, as it was the last time they would have the pleasure of sitting under the presidency of the present Mayor (Mr D. Thomas), he would propose that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to that gentleman by the Council. Councillor Williamson testified to the impartial, kindly and able manner in which Mr Thomas had discharged his duties during the two years he had occupied the chair. Councillor Friedlander seconded the motion, and after the other Councillors had expressed their concurrence it was carried by acclamation. Mr Thomas replied iv his usual happy style. He was sorry he would be too busy with his own affairs for some time to take an active part in the work of the Council, but when he had more leisure he might again seek the auffrageo of the ratepayers. The Council then adjourned.
