ADDINGTON MARKET.
♦ — [Per "Stab's" Pigeon ExntE.ss.] THIS DAY. The long continued drought, combined with the near completion of shearing, caused a heavy market, particularly of fat cattle and sheep, and as the two freezing works are making preparations to begin operations again there was a good deal of business transacted. Store Sheep. — About 1000 of various classes were yarded, and sold as under : — Cross-bred hoggets brought from 5s lid, and some forward conditioned two-tooth croas-breds reached 10a 10id» one line of this class being withdrawn at 8s 8d ; crossbred dry ewes sold in small lineß at 2s sd, 58, and 5s 2d ; ewes and lambs, all counted, 38 8d and 5s 6d ; and some merino ewes and lambs given in realised 6s and Gs 4d. Lambs.— From 450 to 500 good Borts were yarded, and nearly all Bold at from 8s (Jd to 12b for the primest quality for freezing, 9s to 10s Gd being the general average. Pat Sheep. — Over GCOO were penned, a considerable number being in excellent condition for export. There was a fair demand for this class at prices ranging from lls Gd to 138, at which price there was a general clearance. Light-weight cross-bred ewes realized from 93 to 10s 9d, and a few lines of -merino wethers were sold at from 6s to 7s 6d. Fat Cattle. — The entry was a very heavy one, and general grumbling existed at the vexatious delay caused in bringing the cattle into the pavilion. Why it should be left for the beef to be knocked about by bringing it inside the building still remains a mystery, as butchers, dealers and auctioneers are of one opinion in favour of the cattle being sold from the pens in which they are yarded, and where they can be seen to better advantage, and without waste of time to anyone. Two hundred and ten head were yarded, of which there were some very prime beasts- from Messrs IV. and G. Birdling's farm, which brought up to £S sb, realising up to 20s per 1001 b. A few others reached this price, but the general average of the sale ranged from 16s 9d to 18s 6d, and inferior quality waß difficult to dispose of. Store Cattle. — There was a very email entry, consisting chiefly of odd lots of dry cowb, a few full grown steers, and one or two lines of yearlings, which realised similar rates to those prevailing recently. A few very nice dairy cows were offered. Pigb. — A small entry in this section met with an unwilling market. They consisted chiefly of porkere, a few bows and weanera.
