i Girls' Friendlt Society.— -The annual » meeting of the Girls' Friendly Society was j j held this afternoon, when Mrs Mathiaa was elected Vice-President. Personait.— Our respected townsman Mr John Ollivier, leaves here on Friday for Sydney on a visit to the members of his family in Australia. He will be accompanied by Mrs Ollivier, and on arrival purposes taking up a temporary abode at Woollahra, a suburb of Sydney, where their four sons will meet them during the Christmas holidays. Their many friends will join with ub in wishing the esteemed couple ton voyage and a pleasant sojourn in the neighbouring Colony. Bangioea Debating Society. — The members of this Society and their friends were favoured last night by a lecture from Professor Bickerton on the highlyinteresting subject of "Altruism." It goes without saying that the lecture was a thorough treat, and at the close a most cordial vote of thanks was accorded to the Professor for his kindness in coming from Christchurch to deliver it. The meeting j being the last of the 1890 session, a * balance-sheet waß presented, and being satisfactory, was adopted. Mr T. Keir, President of the Society, occupied the chair. Canterbttrt Cricket Association.— A meeting of the Committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association was held at the Secretary's office on Monday, Dec. 1 ; present— Messrs J. F. Hartland, L. Cohen, W. N. Wigby, G. H. N. Helmore, J. A. Caygill and the Secretary. It was resolved — "That the senior cup matches be supended until Jan. 10 next." Permission was granted to the Midland Canterbury Cricket Club to continue their match with the United Canterbury Cricket Club on Saturday, Dec. 6. The Junior Cup and President's Cup matches will be continued on Dec. 6 and 20. His Excellshcy LoBD Okslow having honoured C. U.
