INSUBORDINATION.
SYON KT, Oct. 31. Mr Egeson, of the Weather Department, iaa been dismissed from the service owing to insubordination in persisting in his prognostications in regard to the state of the weather. He still holds that three years' drought is looming in the near future.
[Pke Pbess Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 31. The management Committee of the Blind Institute- report that there iB on deposit to credit a snm of £2813. At a meeting of the Board of Education "to-day a discussion took place regarding teachers taking part in political matters. Mr Goldie mentioned a case where a teacher had appeared on a platform at a politicalmeeting and objected to a certain candidate, and had afterwards attended a meeting held by the opposing candidate, and seconded a vote of confidence. The Chairman said this was not the only case •of the kind. The following resolution was •passed :— " That the Board disapproves of teachers taking an active prominent part iin election matters." j HUMANE SOCIETY. j At a meeting of the City Council last night, Eobort Moore, a well-known local man, was presented with the bronze medal and certificate of the Royal Humane Society for having rescued Alfred Johnstone from drowning in December last. The certificate of the same Society was also given to Thomas Brown, a waterman, for the rescue of a little girl named Mary "Ethel Thomas from drowning in November last year.
