Ethical Society.
The usual weekly meeting of the Christian Ethical Society was held at the Caledonian Society's tooma last evening, Mr F. S. Malcolm presiding. There was a moderate attendance. It was resolved, on the motion of the Eev J. Hoatson, — "That the Committee be aßked to consider the matter of future meetings at the completion of the present syllabus, and report to next meeting." Mr Pratt was appointed Chairman of next meeting, which will be a "Book evening," and Mr Laing will introduce to the notice of the members, "Phantasms of the Living," a book published for the Psychical Society. The details of the social on Oct. 31 were discussed, after which Professor Biefcerton made some remarksupon competition and co-operation, in which he showed the advantages that would accrue to any community by the adoption of the latter system in preference to the former. An interesting discussion followed, in which the Key J. Hoatson, Mr Shanks and others took part, and the meeting adjourned.
