RUGBY UNION.

j A mooting of the Committee of the ' Rugby Union was held at Warner's Hotel yesterday at 5 p.m. ; present — Messrs G. Harris (in the chair), G. Mason, F. D. Kesteven, Johnston, and F. West (Secretary.) The meeting was one short of a quorum. i The Junior Flag Committee wrote, recommending that it be made imperative that the real, names of each of the men competing in Junior Flag matches be published, and iv the event of a substitute being played his name to be made known. Ib was decided to refer the question to the general meeting of the Union Bhortly to be , held. ] The Secretary read correspondence from : the Canterbury College Third Fifteen and , from the Merivale Third Fifteen, re the I allegation that the former team had i played sixteen men a side during a portion . of a match between these teams, and had gained a goal from a try when playing a , man more than the regulation number. 1 On the other side, it was stated that after the protest it was decided that the game should be awarded on the result of the second spell. The decision of the Union on the matter was deferred until their next meeting. A letter was read from tbe Secretary of the Merivale Junior Fifteen, objecting to one of the players for the Lyttelton Juniors. The Lyttelton Junior Club was affiliated to the Union. The Secretary of the Timaru Football Club wrote asking the Union to fix a date for a match to be played at Timaru between Christchurch and Timaru teams, and suggesting a Thursday afternoon at the latter end of July. It was decided to reply that such a date would not be convenient, as the Christchurch team would not visit Dunedin until the latter end of August, and could only make it convenient to play Timaru during this trip. The Secretary reported that the Kaiapoi Football Club wrote asking if the Rangiora Club had joined the Union. He had replied in the negative. A letter was received from the English Rugby Union stating that at their meeting held in London on March 26, no alteration had been made in the by-laws of the Union. _^^^___^___^_
