THE HOME MAILS.

[Pee Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 21. If the American subsidy to the San Francisco service be not granted, that service will probably be abolished; as New South Wales has declined to contribute after tbe expiration of the present term. If, however, the former subsidy be obtainable, Government would probably send letters by the San Francisco route fortnightly at the reduced rate, 2£d j and discontinue the direct service. On the other hand if tho subsidy be not forthcoming, Government will endeavour to make satisfactory arrangements with the two direct Companies for the carriage of all mail matter at the reduced rates. The Peßtmaster-General has cabled to America the decision of the New South Wales Government re the 'Frisco service, and notified that, unless assurance be given that the American subsidy will be granted, the New Zealand Government will be compelled to recommend the discontinuance of the 'Frisco subsidy in November next.
