THE JUNCTION HOTEL, HALSWELL.
At a meeting of the Heathcote Licensing Committee, held this morning, at which Messrs R. Brown (Chairman), W. S. King, A. M. Ollivier, and R. J. M'Diarmid were present, an application was received from Mr C. Dawson, the present licensee of the Halswell Junction Hotel, for a transfer of his license to Mr H. Mullins, the owner of tbe property. The police report on the state of the house, and the way in which Mr Dawson had kept it was very complimentary to Dawson, but their report was very decisive respecting Mullins, whom they proclaimed unfit to become licensee. The Committee decided that they would not grant the transfer to Mullins under any circumstances, but instructed him to pat Dawson in charge of the hotel this evening, or the license would be cancelled. Mr Mullins said he was prepared to put someone else in charge tomorrow, but the Committee pointed out that the temporary license would lapse at midnight to-night, and held to their former decision. Mr Dawson offered to remain in charge of the hotel if Mr Mullins requested him to do bo.
