THE NEW PLYMOUTH MURDER.

Continuation of Inquest.

[Pbb Pbxsb Association.]

NEW PLYMOUTH, Mat 9.

After the telegraph, office closed Dr O'Carroll gave evidence as to the injuries Maloney had received to cause death. He described the woundß on the head; the whole oi these wounds had heen inflicted by a right-handed person. The Adam's apple of the throat was fractured and smashed to atoms. The windpipe and gullet were completely lacerated and torn from the upper attachments. He ascribed death chiefly to the injuries to the throat. The right collar-bone was dislocated, as if by the murderer's pressing his foot 'or knee upon ■ it. Examined Mati Kai's hands, and fonnd traces of splinters on the top of the fingers. These might have been caused by furze. Prisoner said he got them when cutting furze sometime ago. Found blood on the inside of the shirt. The spots had apparently been spattered. Could not say whether it was human blood. Should not be surprised to find such marks on anyone employed in a butcher's shop or slaughteryard. The splinters in the hand might have been caused by handling wood. The inquest was adjourned at ten o'clock last night till this morning. . The inquest was resumed this morning, when Dr Leatham gave evidence. It was much the same as that of the previous witness. The left eye of the deceased was severely contused, the result of a severe blow from a fißt. Believed the injury was caused before death. The other eye was much swollen, and blood was oozing from the nose and mouth. He considered Maloney must have been lying on his back when the throat injuries were inflicted.
