* The Cbrysantlieinum Show. THIS DAY. Tho Chrysanthemum and Fruit Show of the Christchurch Horticultural Society, was opened in tho Oddfellows' Hall thia afternoon, and was, in some respects, superior to any preceding shows of the kind. The cut blooms in both open aud I amateur classes were very fine. In the ! former, Mr S. Bremford made ft remarkably excellent display in all sections. That of Mr S. Brooking was good, and the same may be said of Mrs Bushell's pompons. ! In the amateur class Mesdames T. Gordon, Carrick, G. Green, and Messrs Beaumelberg, Lister, Applebyandß. E. M. Evans showed blooms possessing unniistak'ably tho "points" of really good Chrysanthemums. Mrs T. Garrard, Messrs A. Cant, C. C. Bowen, Clark, Appleby, Brooking and Small sent some beautiful specimens for exhibition only. Mr Cant's display was remarkably good. Ihe show of pot plants wa3 one of tho most attractive features o£ the exhibition » Mr Thomas. Abbott's collection, sent for exhibition only, and placed on the stage, ' was worthy of his high reputation as a grower. The small, but good, collection of Mr 3 T. Gordon aUo deserves mention. The exhibition of fruit was something for Canterbury growers to be proud of. Such a grand display of apples has, perhaps, never been seen before. It occupied table 3 extending along both sides of the hall. For variety and quality the fruit was all that could be desired. It's good colour was particularly noticeable. Mr T. W. N. Bec-kett, of Fendalton, Messrs J. Porter and E. Stokell had capital collections of 36 varieties in the open class. In the section for 18 varieties, Mr S. Anstey gained first prize, with an exhibit of largenicelycolouredfruit.Mr G. T. Smith of Ashburton, was second with & very good exhibit, and Mr Banks third. Mr S. Fitch had a very nice collection of 12. Mr Anßtey's prizes for collections by now exhibitora were taken by Mr G. C. Beaumelberg first, and Mr Lister second, both of whom showed really nice fruit. Mr W. E. Ivory, of Rangiora, sent, for exhibition only, a splendid assortment of 120 varieties of good quality. Mr Smith, of Ashburton, had a collection of about 100 very good varieties. Messrs Wright (Mount Somers) and Adams (GreendaleJ had collections of considerable merit The Grosse Colman grapes exhibited by Mi W. E. Ivory, and grown on young vine: planted twenty months ago, were magni ficent. Seven bunches weighed almost
201 b. Mr W. E. M'Eenzie had a nice little collection of apples, grapes, quinces, and pears. Messrs Allen and Son, Townsend, Sandford, and the Eev J. Aldrud showed ; fine quinces. Mr W. A. Carpentei'a exhibit of gourds and tomatoes was one of tbe most interesting features of the Show. IQ variety and quality it was alike admirable.
