ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

[PKB PbEBS ASSOrtIATION.] AUCKLAND, April 21. A well-known jockey named James Carey was thrown from a horse on Sunday on the Panmure road, and when discovered was found to be unconscious and suffering from fracture of the skull, concussion of the brain and a broken collar-bone. The unfortunate man was removed to the Hospital, where he died to-day. He leaves a widow and several children. A fisherman named Charles Johnston has been drowned by the upsetting of a boat near the Sandspit lighthouse outside the harbour. Deceased, who was a Swede, leaves a wife and two children. DUNEDIN, April 21. At the inquest on the body of Mrs Winkfield, who was killed by being run over by a cart, a verdict of "Accidental death" was returned. The Jury recommended the City Council to place a lamp at the junction of the roads where the accident took place. It appeared that a shower had come on when the deceased and her husband were going home. The husband had gone into a house to get a coat, his wife walking, on; and as she was a little deaf, and probably had an umbrella in front to shield her, she did not notice the cart. She was fifty-nine years of age, and had been in the Colony thirty-one years. A search party, out for the young man named Allender, who was lost on the ranges between JSTenthorn and Waikouaiti, discovered two skeletons at the bottom of a deep ravine, evidently those of a fullgrown person and a youth. As some matting and $ primitive spoon were alongside, the remains are supposed to be those of Maoris. Allender turned np safely, none the worse for having spent two days and nights on the ranges. Robert Watson, a painter, has been missing from his home since Friday. Diligent search has been unavailing up to the present.
