Irish Land Purchase.

i After Lord Randolph Churchill, the com--1 mittee of the Landowners Convention has opened fire on the Bill. The landowners ! grumble because the Bill does not offer : them enough —which reminds us somehow that when Mr Gladstone offered them something very much better, they turned !up their noses. It is a good thing for the country that Mr Gladstone's mistake was not taken advantage of. As for the landowners, nothing can ever satisfy them, for the simple reason that their property has long ago sunk below the level of the . value at which they could afford to part with it. The Land Purchase satisfying only the theorists like Mr Chamberiain, who are anxious to keep a place they are destined not to occupy, is necessarily doomed.
