TO THE EDITOR. "One of Them" and "Live and Let . Live" require answering. Let me take ' the latter first, and suggest that all ' employees in the perishable goods line J form an organisation for their own proteci tion. It is impossible at present for the I Early Closing Association to do everything, I but it will take note of all suggestions. Now for "One of Them" — a very good \ cognomen, " One of Them," because he j evidently is, or he would never offer the j New Zealand Early Closing Association the gratuitous insults conveyed in his assertion, " whiht a mob led on by the Early Closing Association, &c." This statement ie false, as what occurred was a spontaneous outi burst of public opinion in regard to an ■ action of which the public are very keen judges ; and anyone soliciting such treatI ment has only himself to blame if he gets more of it than he desires. At the same ! time, from reliable reports of what did [ occur, 1 am of opinion there was nothing ' intentionally mobbish about the demonstra- | tion of Saturday last ; and although I do not approve the action, or recommend its repetition, I cannot fail to acknowledge it did good service. No, sir, no! King 1 Mob is not going to rule New Zealand ; but the New Zealand Early Closing Association ib — as regards its own special business, which it most thoroughly understands. There will shortly be a similar meeting to laet Tuesday's, at Sydenham, ( and every effort will be made to proj tect even "One of Them's" interests. ' With regard to those who do not fall in with the general hours of closing, why, leave them to friend Boycott, the moat
powerful persuader, who can close v; Bhops when no one else can. Trustini that "One of Them" will lend' ue hi aid — I am, Sea., , R. CLARK, Secretary N.Z.E.C. Association.
