PICNICS.
VOLUNTEER FIEE BRIGADE. The members of the Christchurch Volunteer Fire Brigade held their annual picnic at Governor's Bay yesterday. They reached Lyttelton by one of the early trains, and embarked upon the steam launches Canterbury and Waiwera. They were accompanied by a detachment of the Garrison Band, who provided excellent music. A quantity of games, such as crioket, kiss-in-the-ring, and races for the children, served to pass the time agreeably, and Mrs Clark, of the Ocean View Hotel, did all in her power to afford her visitors a day's enjoyment. The party returned to Christchurch about 8 p.m., having thoroughly enjoyed themselves, without a hitch occurring to mar the day's sport. Mr Freeman's catering was very satisfactory. About thirty-live of the members, with Mr Superintendent Turton and Lieutenant Smith, with their wives and families, made up the party.
