The eecond annual compotition for tha Chess Ghampionßliip of tho' Colony commencea on Thursday at Dnnedin. The Clubs received notice from the Committee or" Management only- on' "Wednesday , in last vreek qI the date fixed for the commencement of the tourney.- Owing to thiß'too brief intimation they have been in some instances unable to choose their best ropreseitativGa. . Prom the same cause we regret bur inability, to present our readera with a complete list of the contestants wifch other details. The competitor* will, hojwever, bo found to include Dr Stenho.nse and Mr Mouafc, of Dunedin, and Mr H6ofcham,of Canterbury: Mesera Ollivier,, Bqnbow, Saxton, . and .Brown, who participated- in lost year's tourney, will, uafortanately, be absent on this oucaeiori.
