Anglers' Society.

A meeting of the Committae of the Anglers' Society was held last night, at the Commercial Hotel, at which there was only a small attendance, bo many of the members being absent from Christchurch. Mr W. 11. Spackman, President, waa in the chair. The rules for the competition to bo held on Dec. 16 were considered and adopted. They provide for the competition being open to members of the Society ; only between midnight on Doc. 15 and the following midnight ; the fieh to bo weighed I at Mr M'William's on Doc. 17. Anglers can use any stream in Canterbury, from the Rakaia northward as |they may think i fit. Entries ' Will close on Saturday, Dec. ! 14. j The prizes will be as follow : — First i clasa, first prize, £2, for heaviest basket . of fish by tho artificial fly ; second prize £1, third prize .£1 for the heaviest fish. Second class, £2 for heaviest basket by any legal means; £1 for second, and .£1 , for fcho heaviest fish, in thi3 clasa. The prize- takers ni3y select fishing tackle to the amount of thoir prizes. Afterwarda a general meeting was held, and three new members (Messrs Temple,, SaviD, and Denby) were elected. j Dr Moorhouso moved tho resolution of j which ho had given notice, to the offecfe that the annual subscription be raised, to ss. After discussion, .the motion wag lost. A friendly letter was received from the ' Otago Anglers' Association, forwarding a complimentary membership ticket for i the Secretary of the Canterbury Associa- ! tion. A voto of thanks was accorded to the | southern Association, and the compliment was returned, the Secretary being requested to say that any southern anglera \ißiting Christchurch would be heartily welcomed, and assistance proffered to enable them to secure the best eportduring their stay here. This concluded the business.
