Wellington News. . — ■*•»... — [Vms, P__bsß Association.] •= ANOTHEB UNION. FLAX. *"• 7 . WELLINGTON, Nor. 26. nf tpjfloresse^ machinists, a^p<4i«s_^,h'^ l^-W^bHfrthe attendance was very large, and it was decided to form a Union on the lines of the Tailoresses' Union in Danedin. The login foroe at Dnnedin was read, and it was seen that the rate of wages in Wellington waa much)* lower than in Dnnedin. A Cosnmittee*was formed to consider the matter. The action of the tailoresses is. being very strongly supported Here. Further correspondence has been received from the Agent -General on the subject of the flax industry. Erom enquiries made, it is dear that tbe bulk of the flax is'xeally used only for cordage andbind-ar twine, and there ia no doubt that .the better it is known the -store it is getting to ha liked, if only it conld be sent Home properly dressed. If the Colonists would devote attention to sending Home weil*cleaned flax, it would tend to popularise the fibre all the world over. In England especially the demand would steadily increase. It is the persistent shipment of ill-dressed Btuff that does U6_- nans.
