The Salvation Army.

At six o'clock yesterday evening a Jarge number eat down to tea in the-Salvation Army Barracks, Victoria street. The spread was entirely provided by soldiers and friends of the Army, and the style in which, the tables were got up was really admirable. After tea the usual procession through the city came off, headed on this occasion by the united Brass Bands of the Chrretchurch and Sydenham Corps. The gathering inside was large and enthusiastic, and the proceedings throughout were of the "free and easy" style so much affected by the wearers of the crimson guernseys. All the officers present spoke of their j "war experiences," some of these being . decidedly on the comical side. A feature of the evening was the commissioning of the Lasses Brass Band, whose inauguration will be remembered as having token place about twelve months ago. The Lasses Band, the firat of the kind which the Salvation Army has formed, has | now become quite an institution, and &. < valuable aid in the work of the corps, j Major Hammond, who leaves to-day, 1 " f arewelled " with a few terse remarks | about "out-and~outness" in the -cause of Christ. l To-night brings the final meeting of the Demonstration, which is to take the form of an " Indian Durbar." Colonel and Mrs Taylor, who spent several years in India, will relate interesting experiences and incidents in connection with, the Salvation. War in India. Major Eolfe will appear for the last time, the Beulah-land Singers and Naval Band will be present, and altogether the meeting should be an interesting one.
