Leichardt waß first to show in front when the flag dropped, closely attended by Kitawa, who went to the front at the fivefurlong post. After half a mile had been traversed Kitawa was leading by a length, Ellerdale a dozen lengths away from Laiokardt, followed by Tha Tyler, Wycombe, and othera, with Kosicrucian last. Passing the stand the firat time Kitawa's lead had been reduced to half a length, and ten lengths away from the first two horses came Ellerdale, Abercorn, Bluenose, Wycombe and Arsenal. Bounding the mile post, Ellerdale began reducing the gap.and Leichardt fell back beaten, but after going another furlong Ellerdale also was disposed of. Kitawa then remained with the lead, and held it for half a mile, when "Wycombe and Abercorn both started in earnest to catch him. At the home turn, Abercorn made his supreme effort, caught the leader, and won as hegliked, with two lengths to spare. Arsenal came very fast at the end, and beat Wycombe for second place by half a length, then followed Ellerdale, The Tyler, Leichardt, Bluenose, Lockßley, Kosicrucian, Tartar, Monte Christo, Lyndhurst, Kitawa and Weat Lynne in the order named. Time — 3min 85fsec. (Abercorn has incurred a penalty of 141 b for the Melbourne Cup, bringing his weight for that race up to lOst 101 b.) A.J.C. OAKS, of 20 soys each, 5 forfeit, with. 300 soys added, for three-year-old fillies, Bst 101 b, One mile and a* half . Hon J. White's oh f Spice, by Chester— Cuumnion, Bst 101 b ■ .:, ,„ — ut~1" Mr T. Lamond's (ne) Pretty Kate, by CioW Prince—^rito, Bst 101 b... ... ... ... 2 These were the only starters. Pretty Kate led to the back of the course, where Spice assumed the lead. Pretty Kate made an unavailing effort to catch the favourite in the straight, and Spice won by-* length and a-half. Time — 3min. THE SQUATTEBS' HANDICAP, a handicap sweepstakes of 5 boys each, 1 forfeit, with 500 soys added j for three-year-olds and upwards ; Eeoond horse 100 bovb from the prize. One mile and a quarter. Mr W.
