• Moreis-tube Match. — A Morris-tube match, was fired on Kent and Corrick's range on Friday evening, between the married and single members of the Loyal Addington Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U. The Eingle men won the match by nine points, the principal scores being, for the married — J. A. Clarke, 32; W. Johnston, 32; C. H. Winny, 31 ; G. B. Denny, 27, and W. Pickering, 27. For the single — J. Murray, 31 ; A. Whitelaw, 28 ;S. M'Gee, 27. Twelve men £m>d on each side. The Frozkn Meat Teade. — In view of the increased export of frozen meat expected during the coming Eeason, representations were made to tha London offices by the New Zealand Shipping Company and the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company for several new cargo boats to be laid on. Though no reply has been received by these Companies as yet, it is stated that a private cable message received in Christ- j church conveyed the information that a ! largely extended tonnage, ample for all j possible demands, had been arranged for. \ Volunteer Inspections. — Major Newall '' has just returned to Christchurch after a tour of inspection in the country districts. ; He inspected the Volunteers at Ashburton, Geraldine, Temuka, and Kaiapoi. There were good musters at all the parades except that the wet weather at Temuka rendered the attendance rather weak. At Kaiapoi last night there were 75 rifles and j 52 cadets on parade — 12/ boys and men in I training for the protection of their country at euch a comparatively small town, ia certainly a fact creditable to the district. ; Wesle an Hutuaii Improvement So* ■ ciety. — The Durham street Wealeyan Mutual Improvement Association held their weekly meeting on Friday evening. The following musical itema and songs wera well given : — Mrs Tregear, 'pianoforte solo; crio, Mis*e3 Parker and White, and Master L. Percy; duet, Mi-3 E. England and Miss Ellis; song, Hiss Fuller. Mr George Hart then gavo his leoture, "Half an Hour's Talk of Old Times," which, it is needless to say, was highly appreciated, the lecturer buing frequently applauded, and causing much mirth when portraying the many difficulties that the early Canterbury settler had to contend with. Ho concluded his lecture by referring to the many virtues of Mr J. E. Godley, whose life he declared to be worthy of emulation. : A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr I Hart for his very able lecture. !
