XSpjsoiui to Pbess Association] LONDON, Bsfx. 11. It v reported that the strikers have cabled to the Australian Unions, asking them to refuse to discharge vessels loaded by non-strikers. B urns is ill from the effects of overwork. Sept. 13. The Seamen's Union has sent a manifesto to Australia, asking the Unions there not to allow the Tainni to be unloaded, on the ground that she is manned by " blacklegs." The New Zealand Shipping Company deny that they have any intention of sneing the Dock Companies for loss occasioned by the detention of the Roapehu. The strikers have .£12,000 in the Bank. It was the strike Committee who empowered Cardinal Manning to negotiate with the employers. They appear to be convinced that it is desirable to accept a compromise, if the Companies will begin the increased pay in November instead of January. The Standard says the Australian artizans will find that while nominally helping the Dock labourers they have really been playing into the hands of Socialist agitators. [Pks Pbbss Association.] i DTTNEDIN, Sept. 12. The Federated Stewards and Cooks* Union have forwarded JB2OO to the funds of the Dock labourers on strike in London.
At a meeting of the general Committee ©f the Christchurch Working Men's Club, held on Wednesday evening, a vote of sympathy was unanimously passed in favour of those suffering from the great strike in connection with the Dock Companies in England. It was also resolved to open a subscription list in the Club for the above purpose, and that the President of the Club wait upon Mr Wynn-Williams (who had written to the Committee to further the movement) ; any sum subscribed to be paid over to the Mayor of the city, in conjunction with other contributions for the same purpose to be forwarded to England.
