Interprovincial Band Contest.

j A meeting of the Band Contest Committee was held in the Wellington Hotel on Wednesday evening, when there was a very good attendance, that being the : intended evening for entries closing, ! when the following were received : — \ , Woodville Band (Hawke'B Bay), Koyal j Eifle Band (Marton, Eangitikei), Inver- j ! cargill Garrison, Dunedin Engineers, i t Caversham Band, Oamaru Garrieon and * ;City Bands, Timaru Garrison, Burnhani \ Band, and the four Christcliurch City ! Bands (namely, the Sydenham, btanmore, i Garrison, and Addington Workshops'. A \ Sub-Committee was elected to appoint an i ' agent to canvass the city for subscriptions. • ' It was decided that the four Christchurch j bands (and the Lyttelton Band, if pos- i Bible) hold an amalgamated performance j on Friday evening, Sept. 27, towards ; ■ defraying the expenses of the contest; also j to write to the City and Eailway Fire j Brigades, asking them to assist in the'i demonstration. It is proposed that the | j five bands meet at the railway station i ; and march through the town to the Band j j Rotunda, all five playing the same march i j music. On arrival there the bands respec- j j tively to play selections during' the even- j i ing, and a collection in aid of the com- i ; petition to be taken. I . The contort will be held on Nov, 7 and '■ 8, and promises to be the best ever held i in this Colony. I Any entries bearing yesterday's postI mark will be received and added to the above.
