AMBERLEY.
There was a terrific gale from the Northwest at Amberley on Monday night. Much damage has been done. The Church of the Holy Innocents is completely wrecked, the tower alone being left standing. The seats, lamps and almost every article of church furniture have been completely destroyed, except the harj monium, which in Borne marvellous manner I hr.s escaped the general destruction. From Jin examination of the building it appears that it was erected on a concrete foundation without a bolt of any description to retain it in its position. Some blame is thought to be attributable either to the architect or builder, as the tower, a more recent erection, and which waa bolted, has escaped the general demolition and still remains standing. It was only a few months since that all interested were rejoicing at the church being completely free from debt, but now they see their building a mass of ruins, without any present hope of being enabled to restore it. To a lesser extent there has been damage caused by the blowing down of fences, a large tree uprooted, chimneys down, roofs unshingled, besides other minor catastrophies. Such a gale has not been experienced in this neighbourhood since the year 1881.
