CHRISTCHURCH PRESBYTERY.
THIS DAY. An ordinary meeting of the Presbytery of Christchnrch was held at St Paul's I schoolroom at 11 a.m. to-day ; sederunt— Eev E. Erwin (Moderator), Eevs J. Elmslie, G. Webster, A. M. Beattie, H. Irwin, W. Findlayson, R. M'Gregor, J. W. Cree, J. Smellie, P. J. Eiddle, P. E. Monro, H. Adamson, N. M'Callum, and B. Tout ; Elders W. Boag, W. Gavin, A. Orr, J. Irwin, and Henderson. THE CLKEKSHIF. The Eev J. Elemslie submitted a minute referring to the acceptance by the Eev J. Hill of the call from North Shore, and stating that the Presbytery placed on record an expression of regret. They had found him an able and willing coadjutor in the work of the Presbytery, and desired especially to show their high appreciation of the services he had so long and faithfully rendered as Clerk. . It was resolved that a copy of the minute (which was adopted) should be engrossed and sent -to, the Eev J. Hill. The election of a successor to Mr Hill in the office of Clerk formed the subject of a long discussion. Some members were in favour of a postponement, but a proposal to this effect was negatived by a narrow majority (eight to six), and the Eev H. Irwin was appointed Clerk. The Eev J. W. Cree moved— "That a Committee be appointed to take into consideration the Clerk's fee and tenure of office, and report to a subsequent meeting." The Eev G. Webster seconded the motion. The Eev H. Irwin expressed reluctance to take the office in the face of this motion. The Moderator pointed out that the motion had not a personal reference. - 'The Eev H. Irwin left himself in fche hands of the Presbytery, and accepted the office, for which he thanked the Presbytery. The Eev J. Dickson, a visitor from Temuka, was associated with the Preßbytery. ST PATJI/S CHURCH. The Eev A. M. Beattie brought up the report of the Commissioners appointed to visit St Paul's Church. It was of a favourable character. [Left sitting.] ====== I
