In tho course of bis examination, Le stated that tho League bad averted famine and civil war in Ireland, and declined that Michael Davitt had vehemently denounced outrages committed in County Mayo, but had said that boycotting was tho only weapon §in the hands of the people, and that he -was persuaded that unconstitutional action would bo madness. He had undertaken to conduct the United Ireland cause constitutionally.
