Waimakariri River Board

The Board held its monthly meeting at 2-p.m. yesterday ; present — Messrs W. Boag (Chairman), B. W. England, T. Wilson, P. Hill, H. Crooks, E. M. Taylor, M.H.K.,0. P. Money, and T. S. Lambert. overseer's beport. The Overseer reported that since last meeting there had been one Bmall flood in the river. The new groin at Chaney's was now completed at a cost of .£B3 14s 6d for labour. The materials used had been forty truckß of stone, and 12owt of No. 12 wire. Forty trucks of stone remained at Chaney's out of the one hundred sent up. The repairs to the No. 1 embankment had also been completed, the labour costing £11 7s. The material used had been twenty-six woolpacks, and thirty-nine bags of cement besides the requisite wire. The forty chains of water -race had been completed to Beserve No. 12, at a cost of £2 ss. The men are now engaged at the repairs to No. 14. The last new bank had been run out to a dead level at a cost of £2, and should now be sown with gorse seed. Mr Jeal attended and explained come of the items of the report, which waß considered satisfactory and adopted. PLANTING. The Chairman, and Messrs England, Crooks, Peryman, Hill and Taylor under. took to inspect the plantations, with a view of judging what planting Bhould be done during the season, and of seeing what amount of Btock is in hand to plant out. This visit was decided to be made on Thursday, May 23. FINANCIAL. The pay-sheet, including the half-year's interest on debentures, &c, amounted to .£928 7s Bd, and was passed for payment. The Secretary was directed to see that the rents now overdue are paid at onoe. The Board then considered a proposal made by Mr Lambert that they should ride over the reserves on the occasion of the next visit, but nothing came of it. The Board then adjourned.
