The South ; Canterbttry Amateur Athletic Club commenced their nineteenth annual, gathering to-day, on their grounds, on Otipua road. The -weather was fine, and though dull, on the whole the day was 'a most pleasant one. The ground arrangements were excellent, and aa the Club had spared neither trouble nor expense, the cinder track was in beautiful order, and conducive to record breaking and the putting up of very fast time. The attendance of viaitors from Chriatchurcn and of members of the Club in the district waß good ; but of the general public there were very few present. The ladies attended in goodly numbers, and at times the pavilion and grounds presented quite a lively scene. The following are particulars of the running : — Putting the 16lb Stone. L. A. Cuff, 31ft 9in 1 H. G. Bristol, 30ft 2in 2j Higginbothani, Smith, and Studholme also competed. Throwing the Cricket Ball. H. G. Bristol, 95yds lft Bin 1 E. C. Studholme, 91yds 4in 2 Shaw, Cuff, Smith and Hassell also competed. 100 yds Flat Race. First Heat. G.Shaw 1 L. A. Cuff 2 P. Wood also ran. From a nice start, Shaw came away, and won by a yard. Time — lO'-aec. Second Heat. H. 3VI. Eseves 1 G. 0. Matheson 2 J. W. Balfour alao ran. Reeves won easily by several yards. Time — lOjsec. Final Heat. Reeve 3 1 Matheson 2 Cuff and Shaw aJso ran. Matheson got the best of the start, butEseves, soonpaseing him, woa prettily by about four yards. Time— lOisec. ' Running High Jump. L. A. Cuff, sft lin 1 F. H. Smith, sft 2 Shaw, Macdonald, and H. G. Smith also ran. Half-mile Flat. P. Morrison 1 i). Wood 2 Jameson, Smith, Shaw, and Balfour also ran. Morrison rau the first quarter in 57sec, went on and won very easily from Wood.who was closely followed by Jameson. Time — ilium l>?sec. One Mile Walk. C. E. Smith 1 J.Way 2 Hassell, Studholme, Daveney and Macdonald also competed. Daveney took the lead, and kept it for the first quarter, when Way displaced him. Smith then came through with a fine spurt, and won by 12yds. Time 7min 4S:|seu. 120tds Hurdle Rack. G.Shaw ... 1 P. Morrison 2 F. H. Smith and W. G. Smith also ran. Shaw got away well, and once more had no difficulty in carrying off his favourite race, jumping well and running Bplendidly, doing the distance in grand time. Morrison beat F. H. Smith on the poet for second place. Time — 16? sec. Vaulting. F. H. Smith, 6£t 6in 1 G. Smith, 6ft sin 2 Seven competed. QuAKTEU-IIILE FLAT, New ZEALAND Amateur Championship. H. M. Reeveß, U.A.A.C 1 P. Morrison, S.C.A.A.C 2 D. Wood and G. C Matheson also ran. Matheson and Morrison cut out the running, wben Reeves ran past them at the homo turn, mid won witliout. much trouble by twelve yards. Time — 52sec. Steeplechase. One mile and a half. P.Morrison 1 D.Wood 2 Ten others ran. Morrison won without any supreme effort by fifty yards. Time — Oinin 54Jsec. Three-Mile Bicycle Race. Laurenson, scr 1 Haasell, 50yds 2 Three others competed. Won after a splendid contest between the pair by two lengths. Time— lOmin 6}3eo. Running Long Juaip (New Zealand Amateur Championship.) L. A. Cuff, C.A.A.C, 19ft Tin 1 D. Wood, C.A.A.C., 18ft Oin 2 Four others competed. 250 yds Flat Sacs. H. M. Reeves 1 G. C. Matheson 2 Smith, Wood, and Morrison also ran. Reeves passed Matheson at the turn into I the straight, and putting on a fine spurt i won without an effort by five yards. Time — 27sec.
