! Baseball Club. ♦ A preliminary meeting of gentlemen interested was held in the Commercial' Hotel last night. Mr W. Derenish Mearea was voted to the chair. There was a fair attendance. The Chairman explained the nature of the game, and observed that it was one which gave great opportunity for improvement in fielding, which would be especially advantageous to cricketers. He had seen the game played in America, and had been greatly struck with it; and he felt snre that it would become popular here. He stated that the cost for making a Btart would be about .£lO. He apologised for the absence cf Mr A. M. Ollivier, who promised every assistance. On the motion of Mr F. Wilding, seconded by Mr Cuff, it was decided to form a Club to be called the Christchurch Baseball Club, and further that the officers should consist of a President, two VicePresidents, Captain, Sub-Captain, Secretary and Treasurer. The following were elected officers:— Mr W. D. Meares, President; Messrs F. Wilding and A. BL Ollivier, Vice-Presi-dents; Secretary, Mr W. N. Digby; Treasurer, Mr L. Cuff ; Committee, Messrs Longden, Beswick and Ridley. The appointment of Captain and Sub-Captain was left till the Club had made a fair start and the players had proved themselves somewhat. The annual subscription for playing members was fixed at 10s, no entrance fee to be charged. Non-playing members are to be dealt with by the Committee when they bring up a draft of the proposed by-laws. It was suggested that an ■ opposition Club would probably be formed in North. Canterbury. It was decided to play a practise game on Saturday afternoon, and the meeting adjourned till next Wednesday at the same place. A vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the meeting. £50 reward £50 FBAUD & DECEIT.
