Carriage of Dairy Produce.

THE KAIL WAY BATES. [Peb Pbess Association.] INVERCARGILL, Nov. 20. Mr Hannay, Assistant-Manager of the New Zealand Railways, met a deputation of dairy factory representatives, who urged a reduction of the tariff on dairy produce, stating that if this were done the railway would get the trado instead of the coastal steamers as at present. It was pointed out that the Department now carried goods from Port Chalmers to Invercargill for 17s 6i per ton, and the deputation thought there was no reason, why the same rate should not rnle both ways. Mr Hannay, who came down in fulfilment of a promise made by the Premier, will report to the Cabinet on the subjeot.
